Food poverty

The Church of England has called for more to be done to combat food poverty as a new all-party report has stated that benefit-related problems are the single biggest reason for food bank use. In the wake of the report, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg yesterday called for a rethink of the way the benefit sanctions regime is administered, putting the pressure on the Conservative Party. The report highlighted low pay, growing inequality, a harsh benefits sanctions regime and social breakdown as causes of hunger in Britain.
