Still time to save with Cornwall’s collective switch
It has been announced that households taking part in Cornwall’s collective energy switching initiative can take advantage of the UK’s cheapest dual fuel tariffs for their gas and electricity since 2010.
Over 1800 households have already registered with Community Energy Switch. To enable as many people as possible to take advantage of the winning tariffs secured, householders can now register and switch at www.communityenergyswitch.org.uk or by calling Freephone 0800 804 7247 before 19th March.
For households with gas and electricity with an average energy usage, the savings on the collective’s dual fuel tariff are £429 – more than £1 a day. This brings the average cost of energy bills down to £876 a year and beats all recent collectives and other tariffs on the market.
Households on electricity only tariffs also have cause to celebrate as the winning tariffs provide them with average savings of £170 a year, reducing the annual electricity bill for households with average consumption to £400 a year.
The collective switching service has been led by the Cornwall-based charity Community Energy Plus, which provides services to help householders reduce their energy use and ensure that they can afford to heat their homes. The charity is working with the national switching organisation energyhelpline to co-ordinate their collective switch and links into the group buying power of 27 other national and regional collectives.
Community Energy Switch is open to everyone – whether they live in or outside Cornwall. This includes people who own their own homes, rent from a private landlord or social housing provider, as well as if they pay their energy bills by direct debit, cheque, cash or pre-payment meter.
Once a householder has agreed to switch, the necessary arrangements will be made on their behalf with their old and new suppliers. Switching is a seamless process – there isn’t a physical change to the energy supply but householders can feel the financial benefit of getting a better deal on your energy bills.
