Citizens Advice is celebrating 80 years of invaluable help to the community this year.
To help us mark this milestone, we want to hear people’s memories and experiences of visiting us and from any former staff or volunteers.
The Citizens Advice service started on the eve of the Second World War, when Government realised there would be a need for free, accurate, impartial information about what help was available and how to access it in their local communities.
Early issues included help to trace missing relatives in action, how to pay bills – normally done by husbands who were now away at war – how the rationing system worked and how to apply for housing after homes had been bombed.
Citizens Advice Cornwall Chief Executive, Gill Pipkin, said:
“We’re still providing free, independent advice on a huge range of issues 80 years later from offices across the county, staffed by dedicated and highly trained staff and volunteers.
“We’d like to hear from anyone who received help from us in the past and from staff or volunteers who worked with us so we can produce a display to tell our story.”

Citizens Advice Cornwall was established in 2013 following the merger of district based Citizens Advice across the county.
